ABSTRACT

This chapter includes auditory hallucinations (AH), requires perceptual experiences occur in full sensorium. With the mechanisms of (AH), attempts to evaluate the phenomena for both treatment and research. Possibly, because these experiences of meaning, auditory verbal hallucinations have been the main focus for research rather than AH in general. The result of the assessment of auditory verbal hallucinations is the focus of most assessment instruments. The chapter provides a brief review of phenomenology of AH as well as the cognitive, behavioral and neural models of these symptoms. The review serves the foundation for understanding AH, discussed at the end of this chapter. It is an important point to the forefront as one considers evaluation of these phenomena. To date, only one instrument, the computerized binary Scale of Auditory Speech Hallucinations, provides psychometric evaluation of the subject's report through two subscales designed to detect malingering and inconsistency.
