ABSTRACT

Workshop organisation should have as its fundamental principle unity of action; it should eliminate all guess work, and depend for its efficiency on a constant knowledge of all individual acts. The importance and value of scientific shop management have been more fully realised in America than here. Gross Cost is the sum of prime cost and on cost. Nett Cost is the gross cost, less the value, for future use, of any plant or tools made specially for the production of the special product. Machinery includes all prime-movers, shafting, gearing, and machines of all kinds actuated thereby. Stock is the finished product resulting from the conversion of stores. Cards lend themselves to the production of a complete system of self-indexing all memoranda, letters, papers, and records of every kind. Prime Costis the summation of the cost of materials, labour, and outside service, chargeable solely and directly against the product.
