How do you make your voice heard? Transnational networking and co-operation with international institutions
The main focus of the previous three chapters was examining how the groups sought to disseminate their views and garner support among the wider public in Japan, and how they advocated their causes on both the national and local level of domestic politics. The operational outreach of the groups, however, is not limited only to the domestic sphere but also encompasses initiatives that transcend national borders. The groups engaged in co-operation with foreign civil society actors, as well as activism at the UN level. What was the purpose of cross-border networking? How does co-operation with foreign partners or international institutions contribute to the realisation of the respective agendas of the groups? Through providing answer to these questions, this chapter illuminates the engagement of the actors in transnational advocacy.
