ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the overall knowledge of the mobile and casual gaming markets. It distinguish between the functionality of the iOS and Android operating systems. The chapter makes people to understand how audio functions on mobile platforms. Casual games can cover a huge swath of gameplay styles and genres, from the relatively relaxed Flow Free to the twitchy and fast-paced Temple Run. Sound design for these types of games is similar to a casual game with the added stipulation that a social game is often a work in progress, with assets being updated and added to on the fly. The chapter also focuses on two mobile operating systems that together account for well over half of the mobile operating-systems market, Apple's iOS and Google's Android. Sound on Android is handled mainly by its Linux kernel, and requires OpenSL ES to run.
