ABSTRACT

Settlers must be recruited from moderate and well-behaved

men of all ranks if a proper order is to be established in the New World. However favourable the land and climate, a good society depends upon the virtues, labour, and obedience to law of its people. Some of those marooned in the Bermudas wished to stay for ever, without toil, in perfect freedom of life and worship (being Puritans), but their passions, their 'sloath, riot and vanity' soon proved their ineptitude.
