ABSTRACT

Having looked at the case of Hangzhou, we now shall turn to Copenhagen Metropolitan Area to investigate the degrees of decoupling between housing-related environmental impacts and economic growth, which will offer the Danish counterpart for comparison. This chapter is organized in a similar way to the Hangzhou case. It begins with an introduction of the housing policies in Denmark since the Second World War and residential development in Copenhagen Metropolitan Area. This is followed by discussions of the trajectories of decoupling in accordance with the three decoupling strategies and measurement of the degrees of decoupling in a synthesized way. A postulated explanation of the generative mechanisms of the quantitative findings is put forward.
