ABSTRACT
Techniques are often regarded as an object of study entirely separate from anthropology, one that does not really belong or, at any rate, something anthropologists could easily dispense with. This is particularly true of anthropological studies on India, which, be it social or cultural anthropology done by Indian or Western anthropologists, seem wholly under the sway of Hindu ideology, for which the important realities lie elsewhere than in the material world.
