ABSTRACT

It is related that there was once, on the throne of the Umayyad Khalīfahs in Damascus, a king—but Allāh is the only King—called Abd al-Malik ibn Marwān, who often took pleasure in talking with the wise men of his kingdom concerning our master, Sulaimān ibn Dāūd (upon the two be prayer and peace!) and in discussing his virtue, his wisdom, and his boundless power over the beasts of the desert, the Afārīt of the air, and Jinn of the sea and under earth.
