ABSTRACT

From Barrett Clark's ‘The Continental Drama of Today’, Henry Holt, New York, 1914, 62-5.

Barrett Clark (1890-1953), academic and journalist, wrote prolifically and was editor of Samuel French Ltd from 1918 to 1936. This book was obviously a youthful jeu d'esprit written as a sort of study outline book. In the course of the book he refers also to ‘The Cherry Orchard’ but only in passing as a play that ‘lacks unity and has little appeal to the emotions’ (p. 11).
