ABSTRACT

NONE of the nine mills in Yits’un is operated all through the year. According to our estimate, a mill possessing one grindstone, two molders, and two driers and operating the year round would use up 144,000 pounds of raw material. A mill consisting of one molder and one drier would consume 72,000 pounds in a year. But among these nine mills the greatest consumption of raw materials amounts to only 68,000 pounds, while the smallest consumption is 10,000 pounds. Thus, none of the existing mills consumed as much as could have been consumed by the smallest-scale mill running through the entire year, and none consumed more than half the amount which could have been used by a medium-sized mill running through the year.
