The Transfer Problem

McCulloch's explanation of the automatic balance mechanism which he envisaged was often far from clear and satisfactory. But there are, as noted, the three distinct mechanisms envisaged: the metallic flow mechanism, the 'institutional explanation' and the demand shift. In the light of these three, attention can now be turned to McCulloch's analysis of the transfer problem.
