ABSTRACT

The ideological and political disputes between the Russian and Chinese Communist Parties brought into the open within the last year, suggest the need for a thoroughgoing re-examination of the character of the Sino–Soviet alliance. This would necessarily require a careful analysis of the relative strength of centrifugal vs. centripetal forces in this alliance. Such a broad re-appraisal, however, is beyond the scope of the present study, which will focus instead only on the economic aspects of the total problem.
