ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts in the preceding chapters of this book. It draws consideration of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the casino industry. The conclusion separates the theoretical and practical concerns about CSR in casino industry, and acknowledges real-life forces that affect the implementation of CSR by casino corporations. It looks at the impact of casino corporations, both direct and indirect, and the ways that CSR can help mitigate those negative externalities that are generated by casinos. The conclusion makes concrete recommendations for change, based on the research presented, that are directed at two primary audiences: the corporations that operate from casinos, and the public relations practitioners who play a vital role in communicating with stakeholders as a part of the CSR process. However, the efforts by casino corporations to engage in strategic CSR may ultimately be causing as much harm as they are doing good.
