Interaction, Information and Meaning

“Fis96” pursued the ambitious goal of a “unified theory of information.” This goal is valuable and may be attainable. But in pursuing it some conference participants tended to reify “information,” violating scientific convention. Information is not normally considered a “thing” but a “measure”. It tells observers about the world but can no more “be” or “do” anything than can temperature.
