ABSTRACT
Zakhar Matveevich Gorodissky, or, as his family called him, Zarik, was born in Kuibyshev in Samara on December 12, 1923, into a cultured and assimilated Jewish family. At elementary school, he was an outstanding, straight-A student, receiving a certificate of merit at the end of each year, and was an honor student in 1941.
