ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the Narrative Format (NF) approach and presents the Bilfam project and its related activities. The Bilfam project was set up with the specific aim of providing families with training, tools and support to begin using another language with their children. Second language assessment tasks were completed by some of the children at the end of the Bilfam project and by their parents at the beginning and at the end of the language programme. Apart from the blog posts, parents were also asked to complete a questionnaire, and data was gathered from materials published on the Bilfam website. The acting out of the Hocus and Lotus stories was found to be the most demanding activity, but parents were encouraged not to give up. Since this is also the most powerful tool in order to provide children with first-hand experience with the new language.
