ABSTRACT

Microsoft Excel is the working tool for this textbook either using a personal computer (PC), or a Macintosh computer (MAC). Note that in executing some functions and applications, keyboard commands are different between a PC and a MAC. The major use in this text is the development of graphs, particularly in Chapter 2, Presenting and organizing data, and the application of statistical functions. Some valuable functions are those related to the binomial distribution: Chapter 4, Discrete data and probability; normal distribution: Chapter 5, Continuous distributions and probability; those covering the Student’s t distribution:Chapter 7,Estimating population characteristics; application of the the chi-squared test: Chapter 9, Hypothesis testing from different populations; and Chapter 10, Forecasting from correlated data. There is a useful on-line guide for all these applications.
