ABSTRACT

The Disney organization attempted to obtain the best outside operators it could locate for functions like parking, security, janitorial services, and crowd control. While an urban laboratory in the midst of Disney World could very well have yielded new technologies and systems to help American communities, its operations and management would be unique to say the least. With the Florida legislation, the Disney organization also set the stage for control within EPCOT's radial plan. Landscape maintenance is of particular interest in community development and at Disneyland, the landscaping department was responsible for approximately 5,000 sprinkler heads. Physical maintenance of Disneyland was critical to Disney. Disney launched a commercial art business with friend Ub Iwerks and rented desk space at the Restaurant News offices in Kansas City. The future Walt Disney Productions also gained operations and management experience at the Celebrity Sports Center in Denver, Colorado.
