ABSTRACT

The last ten years have seen a significant overhaul in theological education in the Church of England and the situation remains one of considerable upheaval. The world of theological education in the Church of England is one that is changing fast and one in which there is currently much to play for and in which an understanding of the church based around the concept of virtue has much to offer. One of the great debates within Church of England ministry in recent years has been over the professionalisation of the clergy. Recent writers have warned against the lure of professionalism, suggesting that something of almost intangible value gets lost when Christian ministry gets formally construed as a profession. Candidates are required to show integrity in the pressure and change entailed in public ministry and their relationships are to be marked by integrity as are their leadership and their collaboration with others.
