ABSTRACT

It seems to be a vicious circle. Cities are growing impressively and helping to break the fragile balance of microclimate and macroclimate. In response, the resultant climate change threatens to devastate the cities. Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth, reminds us that if the ice sheet of Greenland melts, forty million people would have to leave the Shanghai area because of the consequent flooding. Urbanization is down-zoning agricultural and forest cover, with resultant modification of the geographic and topographic features of the Earth, which in turn must modify our traditional city planning methods.
