ABSTRACT

In presenting the results of a research project on the urban and rural fringe recently carried out in the region of Suzhou and in examining a number of interesting case studies in the Yangtze and Pearl River Deltas or in other regions of inland China, this book gives a useful contribution to a better understanding of current urbanization processes in China. While urban fringes are an important component of the structure of contemporary Chinese cities, both in spatial and socio-economic terms, they haven’t been really studied thus far.
