ABSTRACT

Workplace bullying is a devastating and pervasive problem in the American workplace. Millions of workers are targets of workplace bullying each and every day they enter their workplaces. Targets are stripped of their dignity, esteem and self-worth. They are stripped of the fundamental rights in the workplace assured under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including the right to just and favorable working conditions. Workplace bullying also damages organizations and is extremely costly to organizations from a financial standpoint. Millions of American workers suffer from workplace bullying and millions more are targeted throughout the globe. At any one time, even with a narrow definition of workplace bullying, upwards of one in three workers in the United States are being targeted for workplace bullying. While the US legal system has not addressed workplace bullying that does not mean it cannot be addressed from a legal standpoint.
