ABSTRACT

This chapter explores that creativity involves non-rational factors such as vagueness, wanderings, visceral reactions, non-goal oriented play. The whole notion of creativity as out there is unhelpful for an active cultural community and the future of our children, which is the future of our society. But it would be superficial to suggest that the whole process of creativity and innovation is defined by instrumentalism. Psychological theories of creativity and the biographies of creative lives tend to discuss how and why specific bits of creativity come about through innate creative qualities, personal inspirations, and inherent drives, touches of genius or madness. Only in a very general way can we say that a creative act is the natural behaviour of an organism which has the tendency to arise when that organism is open to all of its inner and outer experiencing. Value-rationality is determined by a conscious belief in the value for its own sake as some ethical, or other form of behavior.
