ABSTRACT

[127/1] It is natural that all people who are accustomed to be ruled by Kings or other Potentates should wish these rulers to be legitimate so as to protect themselves against Tyrants and Oppressors. It was, in consequence, a simple matter for the Manigrepo, on the death of the usurper, to discover his identity and persuade the people that the boys were the sons of their late King, the rightful Lord of that Monarchy. The narration of the wonderful tale of the son of the Moon in particular made the people so happy, satisfied, and complacent, that without more ado they at once proclaimed as their King the Prince who had emerged first from the obscurity of his mother’s womb to participate in the light of this world and so had the right to enjoy that privilege which the world confers on all those who appear first [128/1] and submit themselves to her inevitable laws and exigencies.
