ABSTRACT
This chapter returns to the issue of urban density, focussing on the relationship between urban density and city-wide energy consumption: how does energy use by a society vary according to the population density, at which that society chooses to live? This has been a subject of hot debate over the last 20 years, in part (as will be seen) because the core academic research on the subject is logically incomplete.
