Modern modes of transportation were of considerable interest to the public, as they enabled travel and leisure and were also crucial for military activities and colonial battles. Among Le Petit Journal's images of accidents was a subtheme of zoo violence. The historical dramas of the French Revolution with its phases of intensive political experimentation and the radical phase ending in a great deal of violence, as well as subsequent revolutions.
