ABSTRACT

The Stanislavski Method' was a process of character development in which actors were required to develop a deep understanding of the characters they were to portray. His approach to acting was based on the naturalist school of thought. Bakalis identified elements of Stanislavski's acting system that can be incorporated in adult learning contexts which also require dramatic transformation of perspectives and personal views. This Stanislavski method involves perspective transformation and the resultant learning through method acting. The aim is to reduce the void between theory and practice or between work and outside life by significantly changing personal perspectives. However, changing personal perspectives is a difficult task. It requires reassessment of people understanding of self. Cognitive patterns, once established, do not change quickly. If people want a real shift, then they must work at the new perspective over time. If a new perspective is to really allow people to see a situation in a new way, then it requires significant effort.
