Day 5 Restoring the Corporate Body: Heteroglossia versus Unity of Style

A critical revisiting of the concept of body to which the renovation of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican (1506-1626) is attuned, adds to our understanding of the process of making as remaking, through the reuse of architectural spoils. This might inform our understanding of the Renaissance concept of instauratio as architectural renewal, and further our insight into the nature of architectural spoils and their role in the renovation process.
