ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides a much-needed focus on contextual factors influencing change, ethical stance and sustainability of third sector organizations. It provides a perspective almost as broad as the third sector itself. The book reflects the breadth and diversity of the third sector in their social, financial, economic and international dimensions. Furthermore, the academic performance measurement and management contributions provide an indication of breadth of research opportunities available in this area. An interpretation with neoliberal leanings may view this philosophy as an opportunity to decentralize and empower localism to free up social enterprise to deliver public services in more imaginative and efficient ways without the inertia of the dead hand of the state. There is no doubt that the changes to public service delivery will bring both opportunities and challenges to the third sector.
