ABSTRACT
This book clearly covers very diverse fields and approaches to the study of ICTs, but there are some themes that cut across both the individual chapters and the sections. Some of these key themes, which are recurrent in the study of ICTs, will be outlined briefly below. These are disciplinary contributions, the symbolic nature of technologies, the influence of design on the experience of ICTs and the role of users in shaping design, the social constraints influencing usage and strategies in evaluating the social consequences of innovations.
