ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses very diverse fields and approaches to the study of ICTs, but there are some themes that cut across both the individual chapters and the sections. The adoption and domestication of ICTs is a profoundly social phenomenon driven by the ways in which people make sense of their environment. Since social constraints can have a bearing upon adoption and use, the implication is that we need to appreciate such constraints if we are to understand the experience of ICTs. Their adoption and domestication of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) s is part of the socially dynamic forces that govern the lives of individuals and societies. The book covers various contributors to draw attention to potential social consequences of the adoption of ICTs.
