ABSTRACT

This chapter considers what should be part of market access and pricing (MA&P). It discusses work processes and essential tools to enable the function's role, both during the drug development stages and implementation of an agreed-upon strategy. It addresses organizational aspects of global market access and pricing in bio-pharmaceutical companies, including the roles and responsibilities and interactions with other parts of the commercial and research organization. It explains a number of organizational structures, but noted that the right structure may be very different from company to company. The chapter focuses on pricing information systems. Key functions that are essential to the market access and pricing definition as described above are Pricing and Reimbursement (P&R), Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) and Public Policy (PP). The MA&P department needs to be closely involved in the drug development and commercialization process to ensure that the payer perspective is considered in key decisions.
