ABSTRACT

Komárno/ Komárom1 in Slovakia is a special town. Symbolically, it is only half a town. Its other half, Komárom in Hungary, from which Komárno/ Komárom in Slovakia was divided in 1920 and again in 1945, is located only one kilometre away across the Danube River. It is a ten-minute walk to the other side over the Elisabeth Bridge, built in 1892 when there was only one Komárom, in the Kingdom of Hungary.
