ABSTRACT

This chapter proposes an insight into the evolution of the scientific field during the most recent dictatorship in Argentina, focusing on the geometric expansion undergone by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICET) during those years. One of them is their close ties to the regimes policy, given that the other side of CONICETs expansion and decentralization process was the contraction of national universities, and both processes pursued the same military regime goal: to discourage or dismantle political activities in Argentinas metropolitan area, typically nurtured at national universities. Scientific and academic policy management in this area was entrusted to representatives of more traditional schools of thought, if not to the ideologists of irrationalism totally detached from current lines of thought. The chapter attempted to take an in-depth look at CONICET institutes structure and to realize the extent of the hinge joining Argentinas last military regimes scientific and university policies.
