ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book examines what the performer played, providing answers to related questions such as where, when, and why Jascha Heifetz played. It explains all the accumulated understanding of Heifetz's performance style into a wider context, focusing on the case study. Specific elements such as the chart plotting violinists as great virtuosos or great interpreters and the performer profile allow for direct comparisons between individual performance styles. The book provides insight into what Heifetz did throughout his career, and often it has been possible to identify his motivations. It provides extensive evidence that Heifetz did strive passionately for faithfulness to Bach's score, even if audiences dismissed or failed to notice this aspect of his interpretations. Fundamental to an individual's performance style are their stylistic and interpretative approaches, which vary according to number of issues, such as repertoire being performed or performers themselves.
