ABSTRACT

I have served your majesty here in this kingdom for sixteen years, seven as comptroller of the royal treasure, and I have rendered a good account of the treasure to your royal council. On this occasion of the defence of this kingdom against the English fleet which came to rob and occupy it I have been busy in serving your majesty from the first moment, personally accompanying the general Don Alonso de Sotomayor unfailingly up to the present and, as one of such long residence in this kingdom, experienced in matters of war and peace, advising him with the goodwill due from a good servant and vassal of your majesty. At his command I have been and remain serving in the capacity of captain of the unpaid volunteers in this war, paying my own expenses and those of many others.
