ABSTRACT

Hereupon Sergeant-major Hernando de Liermo Agiiero was ordered to march immediately to Porta Belo, taking with him Captain Diego Rangel and thirty soldiers, there to join the men under Captain Juan Guerrel and do what damage he could to the enemy. Later there arrived an Englishman sent by Ger6nimo Ferr6n, who had captured him on the beach at Porto Belo, where he had gone to look for what remained of the maize that had been burned. This man confirmed what Andres de Y egros had said and stated that all the men were with the fleet, there being no launches missing, while there were only two companies ashore protecting those mariners who were repairing sails and taking in wood and water, and that these companies slept on land covered by the fleet and its guns.
