ABSTRACT

In dispatching this second fleet, the members of the Council tried to avoid the earlier mistakes. Since the new Viceroy, the Conde da Vedigeira, replacing Dom Afonso, who did not wish to return to India, 1 had so much experience in this voyage because ofhaving already been Viceroy of India, and also because of the many years he was a member of the Council of India and the Council of State, the ships were prepared more energetically, so that on the eighteenth of March four carracks and a galleon were ready to make the voyage.
