ABSTRACT

We deliberately use the term ‘team development’ here and not ‘team building’. Team building is often related to a short-term initiative such as an away day where the team might go off and do some outdoor activities. It may be that people will learn from such an event but it is often just a one shot intervention with little follow through. Our interest here is in people making a long-term commitment to learning to work better in teams. This is essential as teams very rarely have static membership – people come and go and there has to be a recognition of this in any team development strategy.
