ABSTRACT

This book sets out guidance for INGOs, and actions for the supporters of International non-governmental organisations (INGOs) might include developing a better understanding of the risks inherent in humanitarian and global development work, and rewarding better risk management, capacity and capability. Capacity building is at the heart of a holistic approach, and the Lead will need to foster this through a range of activities by promoting, encouraging and quality-assuring the implementation of the holistic approach at all levels, including the following: Influencing, supporting and coordinating staff and managers: this might include unilateral implementation or working closely with other departments on areas within their remit or with the logistics department on the development of stock controls. Developing training, workshops and internal communications. Assessing progress, reviewing and reporting on the resilience of the organisation and the embedding of the holistic approach.
