ABSTRACT

From thence they stood still to the west-ward, vntill the 27. ofjuly, being thenn in the Latitude of 43. and f. where they threwe out the dipsing lead, 1 and had grownd but xxty fathome & 22. fathome vponn a Banck, and here they fisht some 3. howres and tooke nere 200. of Cod, very great Fish, and where they might haue ladenn their shippe in little tyme./

From hence they stood in for the Maine, the wind being at so-west, and as they rann in for the land, they alwaies sounded from this banck, and having runn some 12. leagues from the banck nor-west they sounded and had 6o fathome ouze ground black the wynd now growing scant, they were constrayned to stand for the so-ward, and made south so-west waie and sounded againe the next daie, being the 28. ofjulye, and had JO. fathome, smale stones and white shells fishing ground./2
