ABSTRACT

Six weeks after her wedding in 1937, Apophia Wakabi recalls ‘Jesus came into my heart; he saved me and I gave thanks.’ 1 Apophia was one of the first in Busoga to embrace the Balokole Revival. She joined a group that already included her husband, Erisa Wakabi and Mika Mwavu who were both teachers, and Aloni Isabirye, a lay reader. This chapter draws on interviews with these four Basoga 2 Balokole to give a flavour of the first years of the Revival in the area to the immediate east of Buganda.
