ABSTRACT

As we have shown, the transfer of knowledge and technology from one part of the world to the other is one of the most important driving mechanisms for global economic development. Today we see many highly developed and prosperous countries that were quite poor only 50, 40, 30 or even 20 years ago. Examples include Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, or Singapore in South East Asia, Costa Rica or Chile in Latin America and Ireland or Estonia in Europe.
