ABSTRACT
As a means of further demonstrating why Compliance matters, examples of the current challenges faced by the function and those working within it are explored in this chapter. The consequences of these for different stakeholders are also considered and practical solutions to most effectively addressing them are put forward. Inevitably, not all challenges experienced by Compliance professionals will be covered, for the Compliance role and the experience of those working within this arena will vary from individual to individual, firm to firm, sector to sector, jurisdiction to jurisdiction, with each as varying in specifics as the regulatory and compliance environments themselves. Nevertheless, the inclusions within this chapter are indicative of the type of issues that are likely to present themselves at one time or another and should provide food for thought regarding mechanisms to assist in addressing them as we reflect on why Compliance matters.
