ABSTRACT

The theoretical influence of Mikhail Bakhtin and Maurice Halbwachs has been consistently important for my work during the last 15 years. Although I have been interested in each theorist separately, I quickly realised that they shared much in common, and it became more and more interesting to explore them in relation to each other. Reading Halbwachs and his concept of collective memory accompanied by Bakhtin has been very fruitful throughout the last few years and this is what I propose to discuss in my chapter.
