ABSTRACT
One of the central themes emerging from a variety of studies is church as a community in which a distinctive culture of shared beliefs and values is sustained, a sense of personal identity and significance nourished and newcomers welcomed and integrated. The evidence suggests that where these processes are maintained churches tend to grow and where they are eroded churches tend to decline.
