“The map is not the territory”: Thoughts about synesthesia and law

This paper examines the epistemological significance of the map, first as an adolescent trope in my high school and ultimately as a meme in the semiotics of law that calls attention to how our understandings constitute the world. The perspective expands to synesthesia through attention to the way in which ordinary consumption challenges the most sophisticated understanding of law by altering our idea of sophistication.
