ABSTRACT

Beth is in the 22-29 age brackets and currently in the third and final year of her degree programme as a combined honours' student, whose degree incorporates Music and Social Science. Beth has been studying with Timothy throughout her time at South England University (SEU) and is now preparing for her final examination-recital, in a lesson scheduled to be 45 minutes long but which actually runs for an hour. The discussion of Beth's lesson will be divided among spatial, performance and verbal behaviour. The spatial behaviour in Beth's lesson, effectively including any behaviour that is neither performance nor verbal, is characterized by a degree of tension. The performance activity in the lesson may be mapped against the structure of the Konzertstck itself. The piece normally lasts around eight minutes, though it should be noted that for much of it Beth is currently playing well.
