ABSTRACT

Placing the organization's values in a separate perspective beneath the learning and growth perspective has several positive effects on the strategy map. It is symbolic in the communication of the strategy map. Having the values underpinning the strategy map emphasizes how the organization's values underpin the strategy and the underlying behaviours, culture and capability. This clearly shows how the organization's strategy map is now framed by its vision and values. It also helps in the operation of the strategy map and the management of the strategy. The values perspective has the effect of stabilizing the bottom half of the strategy maps. As strategy maps are used, the objectives in the learning and growth perspective are often the first to be achieved, revised and changed. Refined and new capabilities, skills and knowledge are included. The values perspective acts as an additional and stable point of reference when choosing new learning and growth objectives.
