With further details of Henry V’s musical and linguistic interests, a summary of the conclusions proposed in the book and a concluding statement that ‘the earliest carols are not only an integral part of the English repertory but among the most individual music that survives from the first third of the century. They deserve at the very least an honourable mention in any view of English culture in the fifteenth century’.
